A diary of minor adventures

This is a jog through things we have done while in the UK. It is for friends and family who may give a damn about what we get up to.

WOT? It's Feb 2014 ALREADY?

Where the heck did that time go.  ? ! ?

Okay so we know it's a boring winter, not a snowy one, according to the Met office though its been the wettest winter in history.  You may have seen the news that the Thames valley has flooded.  Made world news and I got lots of concerned enquiry if we were alright.
We are a loooooooooong way away from the Thames.  We are however used to flooding as my early blogs from years gone by will attest.  Yorkshire regularly floods to record levels, (climate change you know) but the world is not concerned.  When London gets some heavy rain though, the globe is told it's a disaster, to be fair flooding is rather bad, just that it seems London folk like everyone to sympathise while Yorkshire folk are a bit more stoic..

I don't know why we have not posted a blog recently, it's not as if we have not been busily dining out, tripping the countryside and  generally enjoying the snow free but wet winter.

Gail has bought or is trying to buy a little house in the University town of Middlesborough, the first in what she wants to have as a lot of little investment homes all rented out.  Been a rocky start, learning the foibles of UK mortgage lending on rented property....  Hopefully all settled this week, will let you know.
But you don't want words so here are some pics of some things we did since our Vegas trip.

this one so we remember that sunshine does come into our little home in winter.
These following shots are of our day out to the Tropical Zoo just north of Leeds in Roundhay Park.  It's a venue we thought mainly run for kids so we avoided until now. Big mistake. A great day out.

And then a stroll to the mandatory lunch in a grand house converted to fancy dining rooms and reception halls.  This is 'The Mansion' and it overlooks Roundhay, the largest City parkland in the UK.

I did mention that Gail was looking to buy little homes in Middlesborough and this is what they look like. Boring but profitable if bought right.

And in February, just to prove how international and hip Wetherby is , Hollywood arrived to do a scene shoot. The movie is Get Santa, due for release next xmas,  directed by Ridley-Scott and starring famous actors I can't recall right at the moment.  There were about 400 crew, extras and support staff all filming in the square.  They turned our quaint Town Hall into a 'Theatre' and the scene we saw was the famous actor leading a reindeer out of and into the Theatre/Town Hall.

It would seem that the script called for the Theatre to be showing a Pantomime hence the costumes.

Anyway, Other than those events, we dined out heaps and went lots of pubs and places but you don't need to see a swathe of food pictures, except, especially for Jon and Kylie, a quick shot of us at a local Italian  where meals are presented on Wanker Stands....without us asking . ;-)
Finally for this post, a further bit of news, I got interviewed and one of my short stories got published in a glossy magazine.  Nice to see two whole glossy pages dedicated to my ego..

There are many things going on in our background so hopefully posts will be more frequent and exciting as 2014 rolls along.
