Egypt Nile cruise Edfu temple

An early rise and drive through the streets of Edfu to reach the temple.
This is a Greco period structure, one of the most complete but the weather and pollution has eroded it's paintwork.  We did see historic artists works of this temple mostly buried by sand but with startlingly bright colours.

The coptic christians defaced all references to paganism when they occupied and used the temples.

the big hat shows divinity.  This is Horus, falcon god.  The eye of horus is a powerful symbol of protection even today, you will be familiar with it

Just a cat, as you'd expect in a bird temple.

Nile cruising is not such a unique idea.
some of the endless tourist tat shops which line every port of the Nile cruise ships.

A swan made a nest on our bed before lunch.
